Rufus and Black & Tans in our breeding program.

On the Threatened list with The Livestock Conservancy, we are are estatic to add this breed to our program at Willamette Valley Rabbitry.

Originating in Belgium, the credit for their perfection comes from the British.  Arriving on US shores in 1888, E.M. Hughes with W.N. Richardson, and G.W. Felton founded the first rabbit club in America, the American Belgian Hare Association.

This breed is said to be the most intelligent rabbit, very racy and fine-boned, with a deep rich red color that has black-waved ticking to the fur.  Not the hardiest of breeds, they require wooden floored hutches heavily bedded with shavings and straw.  Mature bucks and does will weigh 6-9 lbs.
